Rebecca Ferigo.
At Downie Stewart, Becky provides well-rounded legal support across a broad range of matters, with a particular focus on assisting rural clients with their unique legal needs. She enjoys working closely with clients to understand their needs, empower them with knowledge, and guide them toward effective solutions—building long-term relationships as a trusted legal advisor.
Becky has a diverse legal background, with experience in both litigation and commercial law. She began her legal career at a small Balclutha based firm, where she worked across a range of litigation matters, with a strong focus on relationship property disputes, care of children matters, and Oranga Tamariki proceedings. She has also trained as a collaborative law professional, exploring alternative dispute resolution pathways to help clients reach amicable agreements. Becky later transitioned into commercial law at a large Southland and Central Otago based firm, where she worked on complex commercial transactions across a wide variety of industries and provided in-house style legal support for large corporate clients, including substantial dairy operations.
Beyond her legal work, Becky and her husband run a sheep and beef farm near Kaka Point, where she balances farm work with family life. She enjoys the outdoors, frequently going tramping, hunting, diving, and fishing, and has a background in endurance adventure racing, including competing in Godzone and Goldrush before having children.
Committed to supporting her local community, Becky is a founding trustee and secretary of the Catlins Early Learning Centre (Little Hoiho), a not-for-profit early learning centre and continues to volunteer for various community initiatives and organisations.
